Draft for legal review. This text has not yet been checked by a lawyer.
1. Who we are
corddit is an independent community project. In these terms, we, us and our mean the people who run corddit. You means the person using corddit.
You can contact us at support@corddit.com. For reports, complaints and appeals, use safety@corddit.com.
2. What corddit is
corddit is a public community site at https://corddit.com. It combines forum posts in topic spaces called hubs (for example h/general) with real-time chat for each hub. You can post, comment, vote, save posts, upload images and chat. Any chat message can be promoted into a forum post by any signed-in user. The post shows who originally wrote the message.
Everything you post on corddit is public. Anyone can read posts, comments and chat without an account, and search engines may index them.
3. Accepting these terms
By creating an account or using corddit, you agree to these terms, our community guidelines and our reporting and complaints process. Our privacy notice explains how we use your personal data. If you do not agree, do not use corddit.
4. You must be 18 or over
corddit is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and you confirm that you are 18 or over when you sign up. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will remove it.
5. Your account
- You need an email address, a username and a password to create an account.
- Keep your password secret. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Tell us at support@corddit.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- You can change your username, email address and password in Settings.
- You can download your data or delete your account in Settings at any time.
6. Your content and your responsibility for it
You keep ownership of what you post. To run corddit, we need permission to use it. By posting, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display and distribute your content for the purpose of operating and providing corddit. This includes letting other users promote your chat messages into forum posts, with credit to you.
This licence ends when you delete the content or your account. It continues only for copies held in backups (which roll off within 30 days) and for copies kept in safety records as described in our privacy notice.
You must only post content you have the right to post. You are legally responsible for what you post. This includes responsibility under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10175), which makes libel committed through a computer system, known as cyber libel, a crime. Think before you accuse a named person of wrongdoing.
You can edit and delete your own posts and comments, and delete your own chat messages.
7. Acceptable use
You must not use corddit to:
- post or share anything that is illegal under Philippine law;
- break our community guidelines;
- harass, threaten, bully or impersonate anyone;
- share personal information about someone without their permission (doxxing);
- send spam, run scams or post malware;
- get around rate limits, bans or suspensions, including by creating new accounts;
- scrape, overload, probe or interfere with the service or its security;
- use automated tools to create accounts or post, unless we have agreed in writing.
We apply rate limits to reduce spam and abuse. At present these are 5 chat messages per 10 seconds, 5 posts per 10 minutes, 10 comments per minute, 20 reports per hour, 2 new hubs a day and 30 image uploads an hour. We may change these limits.
8. How we deal with illegal and harmful content
- Anyone signed in can report a post, comment or chat message using the report option on that item.
- Reports go to a moderator queue and are reviewed by people.
- We acknowledge reports immediately by email and aim to review them within 24 hours. We review reports of child sexual abuse or exploitation material, terrorism and threats to life faster.
- Moderators can remove content and suspend accounts.
- Rate limits and an optional anti-bot check help stop spam and automated abuse.
Our reporting and complaints page explains the process in full. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
9. Moderation, suspension and termination
We may remove content, or suspend or close an account, if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms or our community guidelines, is illegal, or puts other people at risk. We may also do this if the law requires it.
If we remove your content or suspend your account, we will email you and explain why, unless the law or a risk to safety prevents us. You can appeal within 14 days by emailing safety@corddit.com. Our complaints page explains how appeals work.
You can stop using corddit and delete your account at any time in Settings.
10. Requests from the authorities
We cooperate with lawful requests from Philippine authorities, for example the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police (PNP). Where the law requires it, we may preserve your data and disclose it to them. We disclose no more than a lawful request needs.
11. Availability of the service
corddit is free to use. We try to keep it running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change, pause or stop features. If we plan to close corddit entirely, we will give you reasonable notice so you can download your data.
12. Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under Philippine law.
Subject to that, and to the extent Philippine law allows:
- We provide corddit as it is and as available, and we take reasonable care in running it.
- Content on corddit is posted by users. We do not check it before it appears and we are not responsible for what users post, although we act on reports as described in these terms.
- We are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you started using corddit.
- We are not liable for business losses. corddit is for personal, non-commercial use.
- We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes to corddit or to the law. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect. If you keep using corddit after that, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.
14. Other important terms
- If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest stays in force.
- If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- These terms are between you and us. No one else has rights under them.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines. Any dispute will be decided by the courts of the Philippines.
