Why corddit exists: a new home after the Discord block and the Reddit ultimatum
Kumusta, and welcome. corddit started this week for a simple reason. In the space of a few days, a lot of Filipinos lost the places where their communities lived online, and we think those communities deserve a home that is built here, for people here, and that takes their safety seriously. What happened On 18 September 2026 there was a shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato. Reports said violent online content had influenced the teenage suspect. In response, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) sent letters dated 21 September to Reddit and Discord, telling them to name a local representative in the Philippines within 24 hours, someone who can work with Philippine authorities, or face a ban. The two platforms got different outcomes. Reddit met the CICC inside the deadline, committed to a local office and agreed on faster ways for authorities to flag harmful content, so it was given more time. Discord was not. From the night of 22 September, Discord stopped loading for many users on PLDT, Globe, GOMO, TNT and DITO, while some other networks could still reach it. As we write this on 24 September, there is no formal nationwide ban on either platform, but for a large number of people Discord simply does not work any more, and nobody can say for certain what happens to Reddit next. Behind those headlines are real people. Study groups that met every night. Barkadas who have shared a server for years. Freelancers who found clients in a subreddit. Small sellers who ran their customer service in a Discord channel. Hobby clubs, gaming groups, support groups. Many of them woke up to find the door locked, with their history and their contacts on the other side. Why corddit exists corddit is a place to rebuild those communities. It combines the two things people used most: 1. Forum threads, like Reddit. Every hub has posts you can upvote, save and discuss in threaded comments. Good answers stay findable instead of scrolling away. 2. Live chat, like Discord. Every hub also has its own real-time channel, so you can talk as it happens. If something said in chat deserves a proper discussion, anyone can turn that message into a post, and the post shows who originally said it. We are starting with two hubs. h/general is for introductions, announcements and anything that does not fit elsewhere. h/small-business is for small business owners, freelancers, online sellers and side hustlers: pricing, clients, payments, permits and everything in between. Anyone with an account can create more hubs, so if your old server or subreddit needs a new home, make one and invite your people. Safety is the point, not an afterthought It would be easy to build a place that simply ignores why this happened. We will not do that. Violent content online contributed to real harm, and a community platform has a duty to act when people report something dangerous. So from day one: 1. corddit is for adults only. You must be 18 or over to join. 2. Every post, comment and chat message can be reported. Reports go straight to a moderator queue, and the person who reported gets an email when it is reviewed. 3. Moderators can remove content and suspend accounts. A suspended account cannot post, comment, chat or vote. 4. There is zero tolerance for child sexual abuse or exploitation material. It is removed and reported to the authorities, as Philippine law requires. 5. We respond to lawful requests from Philippine authorities, and our terms and privacy notice follow Philippine law, including the Data Privacy Act of 2012. 6. Everything posted on corddit is public. Please do not share private information about yourself or anyone else. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
